Sticky and Slimy by Jackson, Kathryn, and Gracie
October 19th, 2009 by mrspatterson in Uncategorized · 5 Comments
We read a book Sticky and Slimy by Erin Ash Sullivan
A slug can leave a track of slime. Sometimes worms look like snakes. We learned that squids are slimy. The slime is so that it can escape from predators. Sticky leaves trap insects for food. Sticky feet help the gecko crawl over anything.
The book was cool.

Zane’s cocoon
October 13th, 2009 by mrspatterson in classroom · 4 Comments
Zane brought in a cocoon. We had a great time looking at it under the microscope but we have NO idea what it is. The leaf was kind of wrapped around it.
Can you help us figure out what it is? We live in Southwest Virginia.
UPDATE: Zane’s mom described the caterpillar and we were able to find a picture on the internet. It is a Hickory Tussock caterpillar.

We have put it in a critter cage. We think that it will come out sometime in the Spring.
It should look like this
