Zane brought in a cocoon. We had a great time looking at it under the microscope but we have NO idea what it is. The leaf was kind of wrapped around it.
Can you help us figure out what it is? We live in Southwest Virginia.
UPDATE: Zane’s mom described the caterpillar and we were able to find a picture on the internet. It is a Hickory Tussock caterpillar.

We have put it in a critter cage. We think that it will come out sometime in the Spring.
It should look like this

I found the caterpillar on the Huckleberry Trail by Va Tech. When I found it it was still a caterpiller crawling around. It had white fur with a black stripe down it’s back. I had never seen one with those colors before so I brought it home.
I’m sure with all those smart students you all will figure out what it is!
